Standing outside the fire!!

Garth Brooks, the country and western superstar, sings an outstanding song titled ‘Standing Outside the Fire’.

The theme of the song is that the fire is your life, especially the tough bits that take some real courage.

Here are three lines from the song that I love:

  1. You’ve got to be tough, when consumed by desire, because it’s not enough to stand outside the fire
  2. Its not living, if you stand outside the fire (and life is not tried, it is merely survived, if you stand outside the fire)

So, how does this all relate to your life?

Well:

  1. When you know what want, you have to go after it – even if you might get a little burnt (or even char grilled – ouch – but hey, you will learn something)
  2. Some people are what could be called ‘spectators’ of life. They watch it from the side lines, without really living their potential, and really participating in life (which are you, a spectator or participator)

Finally, Garth Brooks finishes off with the line ‘I can’t abide standing outside the fire’.

I really agree with this line. And so should everyone. Hold yourself accountable to never stand outside the fire, and dive in head first to live life to the full. Yee Hah.
